The positions are fixed-term for two years and are located at the Stem Cell and Metabolism Research Program Unit, Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD with a strong publication record
  • Background in experimental and computational areas such as stem cell culture and differentiation, metabolism, genome editing, gene therapy, animal models, functional genomics, single-cell omics methods, transcriptomics, epigenetics, and diabetes genetics
  • Interest and understanding of developmental biology, islet biology, diabetes, and metabolism
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Comfortable with mentoring doctoral and master’s students

Job Description:
The appointed postdoctoral fellows will work on the generation of cutting-edge engineered stem cell models to investigate the transcriptional regulation of islet cell development and function. This will involve directed differentiation, 3D pancreas models, in vitro and in vivo genome editing, and CRISPR screens. Additionally, the fellows will be involved in the analysis and integration of bulk, single-cell, and spatial multi-omics methods with human genetics, encompassing transcriptomics, epigenomics, and metabolomics. There is an opportunity to develop individual projects, explore new research directions, and co-mentor doctoral and master’s students. The research aims to further the understanding of mechanisms relevant to diabetes treatment.
