Research Area: Theory and Modelling of Electrical Double Layer at Supported Nanoparticles

Location: Institute of Energy Technologies– Theory and Computation of Energy Materials (IET-3), Jülich, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • M.Sc. degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, or related field
  • Proficiency in physical and chemical theory, along with molecular simulation methods
  • Experience in computer programming
  • Basic knowledge of electrochemistry and electrochemical energy technologies
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English; knowledge of German is a bonus

Job Description:

  • Apply density-potential functional theory to study interfaces in the Ag-supported Au nanoparticle system
  • Analyze electron density redistribution upon contact between Au NP and Ag support
  • Calculate work function of Ag supported Au NP systems with varying sizes and coverage
  • Investigate overlapping electrical double layers after exposure to aqueous solutions
  • Calculate double layer capacitance profiles and analyze ion concentration distributions
