Postdoctoral Fellow in NSF-funded Project: Join a dynamic, NSF-funded research project focused on the structure and function of microbial communities under hypoxia in estuarine waters at Hofstra University.

  • Designation: Postdoctoral Fellow
  • Research Area: Aquatic Microbial Ecology and Bioinformatics
  • Location: Hempstead, N.Y.
  • Eligibility/Qualification:
  • PhD in Biology, Microbial Ecology, Biological Oceanography, or related field
  • Strong background in aquatic microbial ecology and bioinformatics
  • Proficiency in bioinformatic analysis of microbial populations
  • Experience in observational and experimental field work
  • Strong computational skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Valid driver’s license for travel to research locations
  • Job Description:
  • Conduct sampling in Long Island Sound independently or as part of a team
  • Collaborate in the design and execution of experiments involving field samples, incubations, and basic molecular biology
  • Lead bioinformatic analyses of shotgun metagenomes
  • Collect and maintain records of raw and processed data, lab protocols, and computational scripts
  • Present results at conferences and in peer-reviewed publications
  • Co-mentor undergraduate and graduate students
  • Oversee students and general laboratory maintenance
  • Other related duties as assigned
