PhD Positions at PELCAN-PUCP: The Peruvian Life Cycle Assessment Network (PELCAN) at Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) is seeking two PhD students to join our innovative research team for the European FOODTURE initiative. This project aims to transform sustainable practices within the food sector through the development of enhanced life cycle assessment methodologies.
PhD Positions at PELCAN-PUCP for the FOODTURE Project

Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, Avenida Universitaria 1801, San Miguel 15088, Lima, Peru.
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Education: Required Master’s degree in Industrial Ecology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Civil and/or Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Engineering, or Process Engineering.
- Competencies: Strong knowledge in Life Cycle Assessment and industrial ecology is required. Familiarity with ecosystem services, agri-food systems, biodiversity, and ocean science is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in LCA methodology, inventory databases, and cleaner production is an asset. International research experience and interdisciplinary thinking are advantageous.
- Language: Proficient spoken and written knowledge of Spanish is mandatory; advanced knowledge of English (TOEFL > 85 or equivalent) is preferred.
Job Description:
The selected candidates will have the opportunity to work on the following PhD projects within the FOODTURE initiative:
- Position 1: Focus on fisheries, ocean science, and biodiversity loss. Responsibilities include contributing to advanced LCIA models to quantify environmental impacts related to seabed impact, stock depletion, and other marine-related metrics.
- Position 2: Focus on environmental science and sustainability within agricultural systems. Responsibilities include LCI modeling for agricultural products, managing data from the National Agricultural Census (CENAGRO), and using statistical software (e.g., Python, R, Stata).
