Postdoctoral Researcher in Protein Structure: The International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IIMCB) in Warsaw is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join a project focused on elucidating the mechanisms of plastid genome packaging. The candidate will work under the direction of Prof. Marcin Nowotny as part of the funded initiative “IMPRESS-U DCL: Supplement: Structure and function of plastid nucleoid.”

Eligibility/Qualification

  • PhD in Biology, Biotechnology, Medicine, or equivalent fields (candidates with degrees in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics will also be considered if they have relevant experience).
  • Experience in protein biochemistry/purification, particularly for nucleic acid enzymes.
  • Knowledge of crystallography and/or cryo-EM is a plus.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Good presentation skills (ideally, having presented at least one international conference).
  • A proactive and collaborative attitude, and enjoyment of working in interdisciplinary environments.
  • At least one publication as the first author in a peer-reviewed journal.

Job Description

As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will be responsible for:

  • Establishing previously unknown mechanisms of DNA packaging in plastids.
  • Purification of proteins involved in the DNA packaging process.
  • Conducting biochemical and structural studies utilizing cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) and protein crystallography.
