PhD Studentship in Biorelevant Metal Complexes : The University of Warwick invites applications for a PhD studentship focused on developing innovative biorelevant metal complexes for cancer treatment. This project seeks to address the limitations of traditional platinum-based drugs by exploring novel metal complexes as potential hypoxic activated prodrugs.

Research Area
The primary focus is on designing and developing biorelevant metal complexes that can act as effective hypoxic activated prodrugs, targeting low oxygen environments typical of certain cancer cells.
Description
This research project addresses the significant drawbacks of existing platinum-based metallodrugs in cancer therapy, including non-selectivity and patient side effects. The candidate will engage in laboratory work to synthesize new metal complexes, conduct in-depth cellular studies to assess toxicity and redox potentials, and develop potential prodrugs that can be activated in hypoxic conditions. The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary collaboration supported by the Department of Chemistry and will receive comprehensive training in synthesis, analysis, and cell culture techniques.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should first contact Dr. Rianne M. Lord via email at Rianne.lord@warwick.ac.uk with the following documents:
- A copy of your CV
- A covering letter outlining your research interests and motivation for applying.
