Postdoctoral Researcher – Shaner Lab: The Shaner Lab at UC San Diego is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to develop and optimize genetically encoded fluorescent and bioluminescent sensors tailored for marine model organisms. This position is part of the Allen Discovery Center for Neurobiology in Changing Environments (ADC-NiCE), which focuses on understanding how marine animals’ nervous systems respond to climate change-related stressors.
Designation:
Postdoctoral Researcher
Research Area:
Marine Neurobiology, Molecular Biology, Protein Engineering, Fluorescence and Bioluminescent Sensors
Location:
University of California, San Diego (UCSD)
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, bioengineering, or a closely related field.
- Recent Ph.D. graduates preferred (within the past two years).
- A strong track record of peer-reviewed publications, especially first-author manuscripts and/or pre-prints.
- Experience with protein engineering techniques, including directed evolution and CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing.
- Proficient in fluorescence microscopy, live-cell imaging, or bioluminescent assays.
- Bioinformatics or computational biology skills are advantageous.
- Strong interest in developing new methodologies and contributing to resource sharing within the scientific community.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a commitment to collaborative and interdisciplinary research.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will lead projects focused on sensor design, validation, and optimization in marine organisms. They will contribute significantly to the interdisciplinary goals of ADC-NiCE and work closely with a collaborative network of marine biologists, neuroscientists, and engineers. The role emphasizes the integration of cutting-edge molecular tools to investigate neurobiological adaptations of marine species to environmental challenges.
How to Apply:
Interested candidates should email Dr. Nathan Shaner at ncshaner@health.ucsd.edu, including the following documents compiled into a single PDF:
- A cover letter detailing previous research experiences and interests.
- Curriculum vitae, including a full list of publications.
- A brief (less than one page) statement outlining potential research projects aligning with ADC-NiCE objectives and career aspirations.
- Contact information for three professional references.
Last Date for Application:
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
