Postdoctoral Associate – Cellular Mechanisms: An exciting opportunity is available for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct cellular arrhythmia research within the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Manchester. This role involves investigating arrhythmia mechanisms in lamin cardiomyopathy and testing novel treatments through a BHF-funded 3-year project.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A PhD in a relevant field (Biology, Medicine, or a related discipline).
  • Strong background in cellular physiology and electrophysiology.
  • Experience with patch clamp techniques and intracellular calcium measurements is preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.

Job Description:
The successful candidate will:

  • Investigate the cellular mechanisms underlying arrhythmias in lamin cardiomyopathy using a lamin knockout mouse model.
  • Conduct patch clamp recordings in isolated cardiac myocytes to study cellular behavior and intracellular calcium dynamics.
  • Perform in vivo electrophysiology and advanced imaging techniques, including super-resolution and electron microscopy.
  • Correlate preclinical findings with clinical data from patients at the Manchester Heart Institute.
  • Collaborate on various projects within a leading cardiac physiology group and the Manchester British Heart Foundation Centre of Research Excellence.
