Doctoral (PhD) Student Position: Karolinska Institutet is seeking a motivated doctoral student to contribute to groundbreaking research in the field of neurodegenerative diseases, specifically focusing on molecular chaperones and amyloid interactions related to conditions such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

Doctoral (PhD) Student Position in Molecular Chaperone-Amyloid Interaction

Designation

Doctoral (PhD) Student in Molecular Chaperone-Amyloid Interaction

Research Area

  • Protein misfolding
  • Amyloid structures
  • Neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s)
  • Molecular chaperones (specifically BRICHOS domain)

Location

Flemingsberg, Stockholm County, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification

General Eligibility RequirementsSpecific Eligibility Requirements
1. Second-cycle/master qualification (Master’s degree) or equivalent;
2. At least 240 credits, with 60 at advanced/master level;
3. Equivalent knowledge from other avenues.
1. Proficiency in English equivalent to course English B/English 6 at Swedish upper secondary school.

Description

The PhD project will focus on studying amyloid formation in neurodegenerative disorders, particularly the implications of the BRICHOS domain as an anti-amyloid molecular chaperone. The aims include better understanding the molecular mechanisms of Tau protein aggregation and the mechanism-of-action of chaperone-amyloid recognition. Candidates will engage in multidisciplinary research combining protein biochemistry and structural biology, learning state-of-the-art techniques like cryo-electron microscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance. The position offers a stimulating environment for innovative research, including opportunities for courses and participation in scientific conferences.
