Eligibility/Qualification
- Essential Criteria:
- Undergraduate degree in an appropriate biological science.
- PhD qualified in a relevant subject.
- Willingness to work with animal models of disease.
- Experience or skill set for small animal models of heart failure and methods for assessing cardiac function (e.g., echocardiography).
- Detailed knowledge of mitochondrial metabolism and/or basic cellular physiology and cell biology.
- Basic laboratory skills, including Western blotting and protein biochemistry.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Desirable Criteria:
- Experience in small animal isolated heart perfusion.
- Experience in cell culture/freshly isolated primary cells.
- Knowledge and experience in mitochondrial metabolism and its assessment.
- Familiarity with NMR spectroscopy.
Job Description
We are seeking a Post-doctoral Researcher to investigate Na overload and metabolic reprogramming in heart failure. The project employs state-of-the-art techniques and collaborates among SCMMS and Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Sciences at King’s College London. The role involves using small animal in vivo models of heart failure, functional assessment using echocardiography, isolated heart perfusions, and metabolomics via NMR spectroscopy. A strong background in in vivo heart failure models and functional assessments is preferred, along with expertise in mitochondrial metabolism.
You will work full-time (37.5 hours per week) under a fixed-term contract for three years. The role offers at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development.
