PhD Position in Geomicrobiology/Environmental Microbiology: Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich) invites applications for a PhD position within the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. Eligibility/Qualification

  • M.Sc. in Microbiology, Environmental Sciences, Microbial Oceanography, or a related field.
  • Excellent command of English (both written and spoken).
  • Strong scientific curiosity and willingness to explore new methods.
  • Ability to participate in research expeditions and fieldwork.
  • Team player with good communication skills.

Recommended Skills:

  • Experience with molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, sequencing).
  • Bioinformatics (processing of 16SrRNA, metagenomics, metatranscriptomics).
  • Familiarity with statistical analyses (R, Matlab, Python).

Description

The successful candidate will conduct experimental work in a geomicrobiology laboratory, focusing on:

  • DNA/RNA extractions, PCR, qPCR, sequencing, and bioinformatics analyses.
  • Laboratory analyses of microbes and dissolved organic matter from natural samples.
  • Presentation of research findings at international conferences and preparation of scientific articles.

This project is supervised by Dr. Gonzalo V. Gomez-Saez and is supported by DFG funding for a part-time position (65%) over a maximum duration of three years.
