Doctoral Researcher in Quantum Materials: Aalto University is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD position in the field of two-dimensional (2D) nanodevices and quantum materials, focusing on emergent electronic phenomena. The successful candidate will join the Atomic Scale Physics group to engage in cutting-edge research at the intersection of physics, engineering, and materials science.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Master’s degree in condensed matter physics or a closely related field.
  • Proven skills in electronic device nanofabrication and cleanroom processing of 2D materials (mandatory).
  • Experience with low-temperature and ultra-high vacuum systems (e.g., molecular beam epitaxy, scanning tunneling microscopy) is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of an international, multidisciplinary research group.
  • Strong interest in experimental condensed matter physics.
  • Excellent command of English; Finnish language proficiency is not required.

Job Description

As a Doctoral Researcher, your tasks will include:

  • Fabricating nanoelectronic devices in cleanroom facilities (lithography, deposition, exfoliation, and transfer of 2D materials).
  • Characterizing 2D materials using Raman spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and related techniques.
  • Integrating devices into low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) experiments.
  • Collaborating with group members and international theoretical/computational partners on research projects.
