Eligibility/Qualification:
- Background in biology or biochemistry with interest in synthetic biology or microbial ecology.
- PhD (or close to completion) and/or postdoctoral experience in molecular biology techniques to engineer microbes.
- Experience in modular cloning approaches and high-throughput genetic circuit characterization.
- Familiarity with lab automation, bioreactors, and microbial co-cultures.
- Proven publication record (at least one first author publication in a peer-reviewed journal/conference).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong teamwork abilities in an interdisciplinary environment.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience with students.
- Motivation, independence, and organizational skills to drive project success.
Job Description:
This position focuses on leading molecular and microbiology aspects of a BBSRC-funded project aimed at engineering robust, modular synthetic microbial communities. Key responsibilities include:
- Creating genetic tools for modular engineering of microbial interactions.
- Developing protocols for high-throughput characterization of genetic circuits and co-culture dynamics.
- Implementing various community designs to explore behavior.
- Collaborating with theorists for hypothesis generation and validation.
- Disseminating findings through high-quality journal articles and presentations at conferences.
This position is initially funded for 2 years, with a possibility of extending up to an additional 3 years.
