Eligibility/Qualification

  • A relevant background in materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, or a closely related field (e.g., chemistry, process technology).
  • A five-year Norwegian degree program with 120 credits at the master’s level.
  • Solid academic background with an average grade of B or better (equivalent) from previous studies.
  • Candidates must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Master’s students may apply, provided they can document their degree before starting the position.

Job Description

The PhD candidate will:

  • Conduct theoretical and practical studies on the separation, pre-treatment, extraction, and recovery processes for Lithium (Li) from spent Lithium-Ion Batteries (LIBs).
  • Engage in Material Flow Analyses (MFA) and Life Cycle Analyses (LCA) from a value chain perspective.
  • Develop laboratory-scale processes for Li extraction and recovery.
  • Conduct thermodynamic simulations to support experimental work and understand chemical processing mechanisms.
  • Document state-of-the-art recycling processes and propose plans for further development and industrialization of recycling methods.
