Eligibility/Qualification
- A Master’s degree (MSc) in Biology, Genetics, Animal Breeding, Conservation Sciences, Bioinformatics, or a related field
- Good command-line skills and programming experience (Python or Bash)
- Experience with next-generation sequencing technologies (Illumina, PacBio, Oxford Nanopore)
- Ideally, familiarity with pan-genomics of vertebrates
- Strong communication skills in English
- Affinity for outreach activities and the ability to work in an international multidisciplinary team
Job Description
The successful candidate will:
- Develop high-quality reference genomes for Asian elephant populations using nanopore technologies
- Explore structural genomic differences via pan-genome graphs
- Perform population genomics analyses on re-sequenced animals to assess genetic load from SNPs and Structural Variants
- Develop a framework for decision-making based on genomic information
- Author and co-author manuscripts for high-quality journals
- Teach within the section (10% of time) and present research findings at internal and external meetings
