Eligibility/Qualification

QualificationDescription
PhDIn electrical engineering, computer engineering, geoinformatics, computer science, or a related field focusing on deep learning applied to remote sensing or geospatial data.
ExperienceDocumented experience with deep learning model development (CNNs, UNets, Transformers) and working with satellite data, particularly SAR and multi-spectral imagery.
SkillsStrong programming skills in Python and experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch).
CommunicationExcellent written and spoken English skills.
Publication RecordStrong publication record relative to career stage.
Advantageous ExperienceDeep learning analysis of satellite soil moisture missions, super-resolution techniques, explainable AI methods, experience in collaborative, cross-cultural research environments.

Job Description

The successful candidate will:

  • Develop deep learning models for spatiotemporal fusion of multi-sensor satellite data.
  • Design and evaluate architectures for remote sensing super-resolution.
  • Apply explainable AI methods to interpret model behavior and predictions.
  • Publish high-impact research and contribute to outreach activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Hydrogeophysics Group and international partners in Ethiopia.
