Eligibility / Qualification
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Plant Pathology, Plant Science, or a closely related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Ability to conduct independent fieldwork (valid driver’s license required)
- TOEFL or IELTS score required (for international applicants)
- GRE score strongly preferred but not mandatory
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Nematology
- Master’s degree in Plant Pathology, Plant Science, or related field
- Experience with molecular techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, etc.)
- Training in bioinformatics
- Familiarity with R or SAS statistical software
Job Description
The selected Ph.D. student will:
- Conduct research on the management of plant-parasitic nematodes in major row and horticultural crops relevant to the region
- Perform cultural practice testing, resistance screening, and chemical evaluation studies
- Integrate molecular and applied research techniques
- Design and conduct independent experiments in both field and laboratory settings
- Present research findings at regional and national scientific conferences
- Publish results in peer-reviewed scientific journals
The candidate is expected to demonstrate initiative, critical thinking, and a strong commitment to scientific research and academic excellence.
