Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related discipline.
  • Practical experience in enzyme discovery, characterisation, and enzyme engineering is desirable.
  • Knowledge in biocatalysis, enzymatic synthesis, directed evolution, biosynthesis of natural products, and biosynthetic pathway engineering.
  • Familiarity with microbiology, bioinformatics, genome mining, organic synthesis, and analytical methods would be beneficial.

Job Description:
As a Research Associate, you will contribute to the development of sustainable bio-inspired methodologies for creating molecules with therapeutic potential. This includes:

  • Engineering biosynthetic pathways to provide novel bioactive natural products, focusing on antibiotics to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
  • Exploring biocatalysis and integrated catalysis, involving enzyme discovery, characterisation, and engineering for enzymatic synthesis.
  • Merging chemo- and biocatalysis for developing streamlined routes to pharmaceuticals and other valuable products.

Salary:
£49,017 to £57,472 per annum
