Summary
The University of Rennes, France, invites applications for a PhD position focused on the study of membrane fouling mechanisms in microfiltration and ultrafiltration within non-aqueous media. This position is an excellent opportunity for those who are interested in contributing to innovative research in chemical engineering and membrane technology.
PhD Position in Chemical Engineering on Membrane Fouling Mechanisms, University of Rennes, France
Designation
PhD Candidate
Research Area
Membrane Fouling Mechanisms in Microfiltration/Ultrafiltration in Non-Aqueous Media
Location
Chemistry and Process Engineering Team of ISCR, University of Rennes, France
Eligibility/Qualification
- Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Physical Chemistry, or a related field.
- Strong interest in hands-on experimental work.
- Motivated by multidisciplinary topics and academic research.
- Experience with membrane processes is a plus.
- Proficiency in English in a scientific context (writing and presenting).
Job Description
The PhD project will focus on:
- Investigating membrane behavior in selected non-aqueous media.
- Conducting filtration experiments (microfiltration/ultrafiltration) with model foulants (particles, macromolecules).
- Analyzing fouling in a representative industrial application.
You will use various characterization techniques, including dynamic light scattering, zeta potential analysis, electron microscopy, and filtration parameter analysis (permeability, hydraulic resistance, specific resistance). The role aims to enhance the understanding of solvent/foulant/membrane interactions in fouling mechanisms in non-aqueous environments.
