Eligibility/Qualification
Minimum Qualifications:
- MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
- No prior experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MD or Ph.D. in biology, bioinformatics, computational biology, biomedical engineering, genomics, genetics, biotechnology, evolution, ecology, systems biology, epidemiology, biomedicine, or a related field.
- Experience in teaching as an instructor or teaching assistant.
- A strong interest in teaching and adult pedagogy.
- Demonstrable programming abilities.
Job Description
- Develop and conduct a curriculum tailored to training biologists in bioinformatics.
- Participate in iterative content revision based on feedback.
- Hone teaching through in-person cohort sessions at Texas Medical Center or in the regional area.
- Create compelling online documentation for bioinformatics education.
- Prepare survey reports, summaries, lesson plans, and perform quantitative analyses of outcomes.
- Contribute to the preparation of scientific articles reporting program findings and present results at conferences such as ISMB (Education/Outreach tracks).
- Maintain a high level of professional expertise by keeping abreast of current scientific literature.
- Interact with facilitators in related programs such as Bioconductor, EvolvingSTEM, or SEA-PHAGES.
- Perform additional duties to support the FunInBio program and lab as assigned.
