Research Area

The research will involve conducting genomic analyses of elms affected by Dutch elm disease. Key activities include:

  • Genome assembly, annotation, and phylogenomic convergence analyses.
  • Fieldwork and sample preparation.
  • Processing large sequence data.
  • Statistical analyses using computing clusters.

Location

  • Primary Location: Kew Gardens, Richmond.
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid (with the option of regular home working, subject to operational requirements).

Eligibility & Qualifications

Candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area (e.g., evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, genomics, population genetics).

Required Technical Expertise:

  • De novo genome assembly, RNAseq data analysis, and genome annotation.
  • Phylogenomic analyses and building pangenomes.
  • Proficiency with high-performance computing (HPC) clusters.
  • Coding experience in Python, R, and shell/Unix scripting.

Experience & Competencies:

  • Proven track record of publishing research in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Experience presenting research results to the scientific community and stakeholders.
