Summary

Oslo University Hospital (OUS), Section for Medical Information and Communication Technology (The Intervention Centre), is offering a full-time, 3-year PhD Fellowship as part of the SYNAPSE (SYnergetic Network-AI Platform for Semantic Efficiency) project funded by the Research Council of Norway. The successful candidate will be enrolled in the PhD program at the University of Oslo (UiO) and will work on cutting-edge research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL), and next-generation networks for healthcare applications.

Eligibility / Qualification

Required Qualifications:

  • Academic Degrees: Master of Science (120 ECTS) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field, including a thesis, plus a relevant BSc degree (180 ECTS).
  • Grade Requirements: Strong academic standing with a minimum grade of B (A preferred) overall and B or better on the Master’s thesis (Norwegian grading scale or equivalent).
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong background in Machine Learning / Deep Learning frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow).
    • Expertise in at least one area: Graph Neural Networks, Reinforcement Learning, Federated Learning, or Network Optimization.
    • Proficient in Python programming.
  • Language Requirements (if not fluent in a Scandinavian language):
    • TOEFL: $\ge 600$ (paper-based) or $\ge 92$ (internet-based)
    • IELTS (Academic): $\ge 6.5$ (no subscore below 5.5)
    • Cambridge CAE/CPE: Grade A or B

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of semantic communications, software-defined networking, or network simulations.
  • Familiarity with hypergraph or higher-order network models.
  • Experience with High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments.
  • Prior scientific publications in relevant peer-reviewed venues.
