Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Fellow in Host-Directed Antimicrobial Research – University of Copenhagen, Denmark

The University of Copenhagen has four campus areas. As distances in Copenhagen are relatively small, it is easy to get from one campus to the other either by bicycle or public transportation. The campus areas are integrated into the city of Copenhagen and students use the facilities available in the city, adding a lively buzz to the streets and cafés of Copenhagen.

The University of Copenhagen is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Postdoctoral Fellow for a one-year position at the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. This interdisciplinary project focuses on host-directed antimicrobial strategies to combat antimicrobial resistance, specifically investigating how novel synthetic compounds can stimulate innate immunity in Caenorhabditis elegans models.

Job Description

The successful candidate will lead the experimental investigation of phenotypic and transcriptional responses underlying the protective effects of a novel synthetic compound against MRSA infection. All experimental work will be conducted using C. elegans as an infection model. The project utilizes a combination of immunology, microbiology, and transcriptomics to determine if the compound stimulates innate immunity and enhances host defense pathways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting research within host-directed antimicrobial strategies and innate immunity.
  • Leading the dissemination of research findings through scientific publications and presentations.
  • Assisting in the preparation of external funding applications.
  • Contributing to student supervision and participating in other academic activities.

Eligibility and Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A PhD in immunology, infection biology, microbiology, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, pharmacology, or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with the maintenance and experimental use of Caenorhabditis elegans, preferably as an infection model.
  • Knowledge of innate immunity and host defense pathways.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Highly Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with bacterial culture and experimental microbiology.
  • Experience with omics-data analysis (such as RNA-seq data) and qPCR.
  • Experience with RNA interference (RNAi) and gene-silencing approaches.
  • A strong publication record relative to career stage.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted electronically in English. Interested candidates should include the following documents:

  • Curriculum vitae (CV).
  • Diplomas (Master and PhD degree or equivalent).
  • Research plan (description of current and future research plans).
