Research Associate- Machine Learning: The CRUK Cambridge Institute is seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral research associate to join their team to study genome organization and regulation using deep learning approaches. The successful candidate will be part of a computational team, led by Dr Susanne Bornelöv, and will use machine learning and other statistical approaches to understand the role of codon usage in gene regulation.
Designation: Research Associate
Research Area: Machine Learning and AI in Genomics (Computational)
Location: CRUK Cambridge Institute, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom
Eligibility/Qualification: The successful candidate should have substantial experience in deep learning or other machine learning techniques, an ability to drive a project independently, and solid programming/scripting skills. Applicants should have a PhD (or be about to receive one) in a relevant quantitative discipline. Prior work involving any aspect of gene regulation, including mRNA transcription, translation or turnover, would be highly beneficial.
Job Description: The research associate will be responsible for using deep learning and other statistical and machine learning approaches to understand the role of codon usage in gene regulation. The ultimate aim is to understand how different parts of an mRNA contribute to mRNA localization, stability and translation, as well as to protein function. The successful candidate will work with large-scale genomics data from many species (mammals or insects) and will be part of a team aimed at uncovering fundamental aspects of gene regulation using computational approaches. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute their own ideas to ongoing research activities and undertake independent research in the context of the general research area of the group.
How to Apply: Interested candidates should click on the ‘Apply’ button below to register an account with the recruitment system (if not already registered) and apply online. The reference number SW36413 should be quoted in the application and in any correspondence related to this vacancy. Informal inquiries can be directed to Dr Susanne Bornelöv at susanne.bornelov@cruk.cam.ac.uk.
Last Date for Apply: The closing date for applications is 29th May 2023. Interviews will be held in the beginning of June. The starting date is flexible, but ideally in September.
