Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. degree or equivalent obtained within the last 10 years.
  • Proposed research plan should align with the Beckman Institute’s research portfolio.

Job Description: The Beckman Institute offers three annual postdoctoral fellowship programs that provide a unique opportunity for selected scholars to engage in a three-year fellowship of interdisciplinary research. These programs include:

  1. Beckman Institute Postdoctoral Fellows Program: Recruits four to six outstanding scientists annually to work at the Beckman Institute. Established in 1991 by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation.
  2. Beckman-Brown Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Fellows Program: Selects one outstanding researcher annually. Initiated in 2015, this program honors Dr. and Mrs. Arnold Beckman and Dr. Theodore “Ted” Brown.
  3. Cancer Center at Illinois – Beckman Institute Postdoctoral Fellows Program: Supports up to three fellows pursuing projects that bridge basic cancer sciences and engineering. Fellows collaborate with faculty mentors from CCIL and Beckman Institute to develop transdisciplinary skills.

Program Benefits:

  • Fellows receive an annual salary of $63,000.
  • A research budget of $25,000 is provided for research activities, including supplies, equipment, conference attendance, and workshops.
  • Appointments are annual and can last for up to three years.
  • Fellows are required to write annual reports and maintain monthly check-ins with the Beckman Institute director.
