Postdoc – Maldonado Lab: The Department of Plant Biology at the College of Biological Sciences, UC Davis, is offering a Postdoctoral Researcher position in Dr. María Maldonado’s lab. The role involves conducting research in biochemistry and structural biology. The selected candidate will lead independent research projects focused on understanding the structure, evolution, and molecular mechanisms of mitochondrial and photosynthetic complexes and supercomplexes. This research will primarily use single-particle cryo-EM. Responsibilities include organelle isolation, membrane protein purification, biochemical, biophysical, and spectroscopic assays, data analysis, presentation at lab meetings, collaboration with the research team, and lab maintenance. The candidate will also mentor graduate and undergraduate students.

Job Description
Responsibilities
Research (90%)
- Design and execute experiments, including membrane protein purification and cryo-EM.
- Analyze and present data at meetings and conferences.
- Maintain detailed experimental records and notes.
- Collaborate with the Principal Investigator on peer-reviewed manuscripts and grant submissions.
- Provide peer review and feedback on manuscripts and grants.
Lab Management (10%)
- Provide technical support and mentor junior researchers.
- Contribute to lab maintenance and organization.
Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
- PhD or equivalent in biochemistry, biophysics, plant biology, or structural biology with an interest or expertise in structural biology.
- Strong organizational skills, dependability, and pro-activity.
- Prior experience with membrane proteins, protein complex characterization, or knowledge of photosynthetic metabolism is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)
- Experience in single-particle cryo-EM.
- Experience in structural biology.
- Experience in membrane protein biochemistry.
- Experience in protein purification.
- Experience with biochemical and biophysical assays for photosynthetic protein complexes.
