Eligibility / Qualification
Professor
Candidates should generally have:
- A Ph.D. degree in the concerned/allied/relevant discipline.
- High-quality published research and active involvement in research.
- At least 10 research publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals.
- A minimum research score of 120 as prescribed by UGC criteria.
- At least 10 years of teaching and/or research experience at the required level.
- Evidence of successfully guiding doctoral candidates.
An alternative eligibility route is available for outstanding professionals possessing a relevant Ph.D., significant contribution to knowledge and 10 years of relevant experience, subject to documentary evidence.
Associate Professor
Candidates should generally have:
- A good academic record.
- A Ph.D. degree in the concerned/allied/relevant discipline.
- Master’s degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade.
- At least 8 years of teaching/research experience at an equivalent Assistant Professor level.
- At least 7 publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals.
- A minimum research score of 75 under the prescribed UGC criteria.
Assistant Professor
Candidates should generally have:
- A Master’s degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade in the concerned/relevant/allied subject.
- Qualification in the UGC/CSIR NET, or a qualifying Ph.D. as applicable under UGC regulations.
- NET exemption may apply to candidates possessing qualifying Ph.D. degrees under applicable UGC provisions.
- NET is not required for disciplines/programmes for which UGC/CSIR does not conduct NET.
Specific eligibility requirements may apply to Health Science, Nursing and other specialized disciplines.
Other Conditions
- Relaxation in educational qualifications/marks will apply according to applicable regulations.
- Reservation benefits are available for SC, ST, EWS, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) and PwBD candidates as per Government/UGC norms.
- Candidates claiming reservation must upload valid supporting certificates.
- The OBC (NCL) certificate must be issued during FY 2026–27, i.e. from 01 April 2026 until the last date of online application, and should be valid for Central Government/Union of India jobs.
- The eligibility cut-off date is the last date for receipt of online applications.
- Possession of the minimum qualifications does not automatically guarantee an interview; applications will be screened and shortlisted according to prescribed criteria.
Job Description
Selected candidates will be expected to undertake academic, teaching, research and related responsibilities associated with their respective faculty positions and Schools of Studies at IGNOU.
Responsibilities may include:
- Teaching and academic activities in the concerned discipline.
- Conducting and supervising research.
- Guiding postgraduate and doctoral research, where applicable.
- Developing academic and learning resources.
- Participating in academic, administrative and institutional activities.
- Contributing to the University’s teaching, research and academic development initiatives.
