Scholarship Description:

Doctoral Researcher (m/f/d) – Effects of Benthic Microorganisms on Hypoxic Events in the SW Baltic Sea

The Doctoral Researcher will participate in ship excursions to the Kiel Bight, studying microbial processes contributing to hypoxic and sulfidic conditions. The project involves determining microbial sulfate reduction rates, sulfide oxidation rates, microbial community analyses, and performing bioinformatics analyses on 16S amplicon data.

Eligibility: Applicants must hold a scientific university degree (Master) in natural sciences or a related field. Willingness to participate in various research cruises to the Kiel Bight is required. Experience with microbial turnover rate determination, DNA/RNA processing, and proficiency in German and/or English is essential.
