Postdoc Position: Leiden University: The Faculty of Humanities, Institute for History at Leiden University is seeking a highly motivated individual for a Postdoc Position in the ERC – Starting Grant Research Project: Challenging the Liberal World Order from Within. The project, titled The Invisible History of the United Nations and the Global South, 1945-1981 (INVISIHIST), aims to uncover the hidden narratives of the UN, emphasizing the role of Global South actors. This 11-month position involves extensive research on decolonization, economic sovereignty, and human rights within the UN framework.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD degree, preferably in the history of international relations, decolonization, and/or the United Nations.
  • One or more relevant publications (journal articles, book chapters).
  • Broad familiarity with the field of international history.
  • Fluency in English; teaching experience preferable.
  • Excellent writing skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to work in an international and highly competitive environment.

Job Description:

Postdoc Position: The United Nations beyond the West (0,8FTE)

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Conducting research on the history of the United Nations, focusing on decolonization, economic sovereignty, and human rights.
  2. Writing a peer-reviewed article for publication in non-Anglophone literature on the UN.
  3. Managing the production of a podcast related to the project.
  4. Co-organizing workshops/conferences envisioned within the project.
  5. Contributing actively to the project, including serving as a peer reviewer, running the project website, and assisting the PI.
