Postdoctoral Researcher – Agriculture Mapping: The University of Waterloo, Faculty of the Environment, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position at Blue Range Labs, led by Dr. Dustin Garrick. The project focuses on mapping incentives for sustainable agriculture in Canada and North America. The successful candidate will contribute to interdisciplinary research, particularly within the Solutionscapes project, addressing climate solutions at the food-water-energy nexus.

Location: University of Waterloo, Faculty of the Environment, Blue Range Labs

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in water economics and governance (e.g., geography, economics, policy sciences, land system science, and related fields)
  • Strong geospatial skills and quantitative techniques
  • Ability to conduct independent and collaborative research
  • Strong English language writing and communication

Additional Desirable Qualifications:

  • Expertise in finance and accounting
  • Experience with large datasets, including spatial data, and database development
  • Network analysis skills
  • Proficiency in programming for spatial modeling applications
  • Mentorship skills for junior researchers (undergraduate, masters, and PhD students)

Job Description:

  • Contribute to the development of an accounting framework for integrating datasets on public financial flows impacting sustainable agricultural practices.
  • Create a spatially explicit dataset to examine financial flows at the farm and regional levels, with a focus on Canada.
  • Explore the impact of subsidies on farm and group-level decisions related to sustainable agricultural practices.
  • Model the effects of different types and magnitudes of public spending on conservation outcomes at various levels.
  • Assess opportunities and barriers for spatially coordinated incentives to enhance the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices.
