PhD Position – Mathematics for Research: The Computer Graphics and Visualization (CGV) group at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science (EEMCS), TU Delft, invites applications for full-time doctoral candidates in the area of Illustrating Mathematics for Research and Education. The successful candidate will collaborate with an international team to identify best practices and quality criteria for mathematical illustrations. The research will contribute to enhancing mathematical research and communication, as well as improving mathematics education.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- Master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, or related fields; alternatively, Psychology, Teaching, or Art & Design.
- Strong knowledge background and academic performance in visualization/visual analytics.
- Excellent illustration skills in 2D (Vector graphics, Drawing) and 3D (Blender, Rhino).
- Good programming skills in at least one language; knowledge in virtual reality development is appreciated.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a group/team.
- Good English communication and writing skills, with an international English test qualification (e.g., IELTS >=7.0, TOEFL >100).
- Self-driven and passionate about learning new knowledge.
Job Description:
PhD Position – Illustrating Mathematics for Research and Education
The candidate will:
- Collaborate with an international team to identify best practices and quality criteria for mathematical illustrations.
- Create a toolbox for practicing mathematicians to enhance their research and communication.
- Contribute to the development of a qualitative collection of successful interventions in mathematics education based on illustrations.
- Develop a new classroom intervention based on research findings to enhance STEM education.
- Utilize various research methods, including collaboration with the Programme of Innovation in Mathematics Education (PRIME).
Conditions of Employment:
- 4-year period of employment in principle, with 2 employment contracts.
- Salary and benefits according to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
- Salary increases from €2770 per month in the first year to €3539 in the fourth year.
- Enrollment in the TU Delft Graduate School with a focus on developing transferable, discipline-related, and research skills.
