Summary
The University of Luxembourg is inviting applications for a Doctoral Researcher position focused on 2D halide perovskites and nanoscale characterization. The project will investigate how atomic-scale structure, defects, composition, and interfaces influence the electronic and optical properties of two-dimensional halide perovskites.
The doctoral researcher will work with advanced techniques including physical vapor deposition (PVD), scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), photoelectron spectroscopy, and photoluminescence measurements. The research will establish structure–property relationships in 2D perovskite layers and contribute to the development of advanced functional materials for the solar-powered energy transition.

Scholarship / PhD Description
The successful candidate will investigate how atomic-scale structures, defects, chemical composition, and interfaces control the electronic and optical properties of 2D halide perovskites.
Selected 2D perovskite materials will be synthesized using physical vapor deposition. Their atomic-scale structures will be studied using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). Chemical and electronic structures will be investigated using photoelectron spectroscopy, while photoluminescence measurements will be used to understand the relationship between defects and optical emission properties.
The project aims to combine atomically resolved scanning-probe imaging with optical spectroscopy to establish detailed structure–property relationships and improve understanding of the optoelectronic behavior of 2D perovskite layers.
The doctoral researcher will join an interdisciplinary research team working at the forefront of nanoscience and advanced functional materials. The position provides access to state-of-the-art research facilities and opportunities for collaboration with leading international research groups.
The candidate will also be part of a doctoral training unit focused on materials for the solar-powered energy transition.
The University of Luxembourg offers an international and multidisciplinary research environment, with staff from more than 90 countries and strong collaborations with European institutions, industry, research organizations, and other partners.
