Summary
Lund University’s Department of Laboratory Medicine is seeking a highly motivated doctoral student for a fully funded 4-year PhD research project dedicated to studying and combating age-related hematological disorders. Eligibility & Qualifications
General Eligibility (Admission to Third-Cycle Studies)
- Completed a second-cycle (Master’s level) qualification, or
- Completed at least 240 ECTS credits (including at least 60 credits at the second-cycle level), or
- Acquired equivalent knowledge in Sweden or abroad.
Mandatory Requirements
- Master of Science in Engineering in Biotechnology or equivalent qualification.
- Certification in Laboratory Animal Science (LAS).
- Formal training and extensive hands-on experience in multiparameter flow cytometry and FACS.
- Experience in laboratory mouse handling (sampling, tissue extraction, breeding, euthanasia, injections, genotyping).
- Extensive experience in cell culture (specifically hematopoietic stem cells and mesenchymal stromal/stem cells).
- Proficiency in FlowJo for flow cytometry analysis.
- Experience with bioinformatic analysis of mass spectrometry data and programming with R (or equivalent).
- Experience with ELISA and protein quantification assays.
- Documented excellent scientific English communication skills and ability to work independently.
Meritorious (Preferred) Qualifications
- Experience in international collaborative research projects.
- Previous scientific conference participation and presentations.
- Coursework/advanced training in stem cell biology and cancer biology.
- Formal training in gene-editing tools (e.g., CRISPR).
- Theoretical knowledge of molecular hematology and age-related blood disorders.
Scholarship / Position Description
The doctoral position is a fully funded 4-year appointment under the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (Chapter 5, Section 7). Key Responsibilities Include:
- Processing bone marrow and blood samples from human and mouse models.
- Conducting flow cytometry, cell sorting, organoid cultures, and protein assays.
- Analyzing sequencing, flow cytometry, and proteomics datasets.
- Formulating research questions, planning experiments, and presenting data at seminars and international conferences.
