ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship Competition: The Scottish Graduate School of Social Science is excited to announce the initiation of the 2023/24 ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship Competition. This prestigious fellowship provides a unique opportunity for postdoctoral researchers to advance their career in social science research.

  • Competition Details:The competition for 2021/22 has closed, and due to industrial action, the timeline was revised.
  • Guidance for 2024/25:Awaiting ESRC guidance on Postdoctoral Fellowships for 2024/2025.
  • Eligibility Criteria:Open to UK Research Organisation PhD holders, hosted at SGSSS-DTP institutions, with no more than 12 months of postdoctoral experience by May 16, 2024.
  • Two-Stage Application Process:Stage 1 deadline: March 18, 2024. Stage 2 deadline: May 16, 2024.

Location: Participating institutions within the Scottish Graduate School of Social Science – DTP (SGSSS-DTP)

Eligibility/Qualification: This opportunity is open to applicants who have completed their PhD at a UK Research Organisation. Key eligibility criteria include:

  • Completion of PhD by 16 May 2024
  • No more than 12 months of active postdoctoral experience since passing viva voce by 16 May 2024
  • Must be hosted at one of the 14 institutions forming the SGSSS-DTP and aligned to an eligible Unit of Assessment (UoA)
  • Not required to have previously held an ESRC-funded studentship
  • Candidates returning to research after a career break are welcome, but they must meet the 12-month postdoctoral experience criterion

Job Description: ESRC Postdoctoral Fellows will conduct innovative research in the field of social science. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to collaborate with experienced mentors and contribute to cutting-edge research projects aligned with the SGSSS-DTP.

How to Apply: Applicants to Scottish institutions must follow a two-stage application process:

  1. Stage 1 Application Deadline: 12pm (noon), 18 March 2024
  2. Stage 2 Application Deadline: 4pm, 16 May 2024
