Study Area: The research focuses on biological signaling and protein function, emphasizing proteolysis on a proteome-wide scale using mass spectrometry. The project, part of the SFB1403, explores proteolytic processing events and their role in regulated cell death (RCD), employing termini enrichment approaches and optogenetic tools to decipher caspase activities in distinct RCD pathways.

Scholarship Description:

PhD Candidate Position in “Characterization of Protein Cleavage in Regulated Cell Death”

The PhD candidate will be responsible for developing innovative proteomics methods, identifying substrates of optogenetically controlled caspases in RCD, contributing to mass spectrometry operations, and actively collaborating with project partners. The position offers high personal responsibility, a collaborative team environment, access to cutting-edge experimental facilities, and a structured training program.

Eligibility: Candidates should possess a Master’s degree in biochemistry, biology, or a related field. Hands-on experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell culture, and knowledge of protein analytics, proteomics, and/or mass spectrometry is required. Familiarity with scripting languages (R, Python) is advantageous. Fluency in English is essential, and proficiency in German is beneficial.

Required Documents: Applicants should submit a single PDF file containing:

  1. Cover letter (1 page) describing motivation.
  2. Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  3. M.Sc. and B.Sc. certificates with transcripts of records.
  4. Contact details of two referees.
