PhD Position in RNA Molecules, Institute of Molecular Biology, Germany

Postdoc in Germany

PhD Position in RNA Molecules: The Department of Molecular Biology at [University Name] is seeking a highly motivated and curious PhD candidate to join a research project on the inheritance of epigenetic information via small RNA molecules. The project will focus on how environmental factors can influence small RNA populations and their subsequent inheritance through the male germline using the nematode C. elegans. This position is under the supervision of René Ketting and co-supervised by Hanna Kokko.

PhD Position in Epigenetic Inheritance via Small RNA Molecules

Designation: PhD Candidate

Research Area: Epigenetic Inheritance, Small RNA Molecules, Gene Regulation, Environmental Adaptation

Location: Institute of Molecular Biology, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A strong foundation in molecular biology.
  • High intrinsic motivation, natural curiosity, and perseverance.
  • While specific knowledge of the applied techniques is not essential, familiarity with microscopy, genetics, CRISPR-Cas genome editing, RNA interference, RNAseq, and sequencing data analysis is beneficial.

Job Description: The successful candidate will explore the role of small RNAs in the inheritance of epigenetic information and their potential contribution to evolutionary adaptation. Key tasks include:

  • Investigating how small RNAs are specifically loaded into sperm.
  • Analyzing the impact of these small RNAs in zygotes and embryos.
  • Examining whether environmental cues, such as nutrition or temperature, can be inherited to aid offspring adaptation.
  • Collaborating with Prof. Kokko’s group to test the relevance of such inheritance under various environmental conditions.
  • Employing a range of techniques including microscopy, genetics, CRISPR-Cas genome editing, RNA interference, RNAseq, and sequencing data analysis.
  • Contributing to theory development and experimental design to test and refine models of epigenetic inheritance.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit the following documents to [email address]:

  • A detailed CV.
  • A cover letter explaining their motivation and suitability for the position.
  • Contact information for at least two academic referees.
  • Copies of relevant academic transcripts.
