PhD Scholarship in Biological Sciences – Investigating NK3R as a Target for ASD Treatment
|The project aims to investigate the role of the Neurokinin 3 receptor (NK3R) in the development of ASD symptoms. Specific modulation of NK3R activity during brain maturation has been linked to ASD-like symptoms in mice. This research project will employ electrophysiology, imaging, genetics, and molecular biology to understand how NK3R activity in cortical interneurons influences brain function and behavior. By uncovering the cellular and molecular substrates of neuronal dysfunction, this study holds promise for identifying neurobiological targets for therapy.|
|The project will be conducted at the Queensland Brain Institute (QBI), The University of Queensland. QBI offers a conducive research environment with state-of-the-art facilities, including the Biomolecular Research Facility, Imaging Facility, electrophysiology rigs, and behavioral apparatus.|
|This is an Earmarked scholarship project funded by the Australian Government. The scholarship includes a tax-free living stipend of $32,192 per annum (2023 rate), coverage of tuition fees, and single overseas student health cover (OSHC).|
