Research Area: Metabolic Engineering and Fermentation of Anaerobic Microorganisms

Location: Aachen, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biology, Bioengineering, or related fields
  • Proficiency in traditional and/or modern cloning techniques is advantageous
  • Ideally, experience in microbiology and biochemistry of aerobic/anaerobic organisms
  • Knowledge of microbial fermentation is beneficial
  • Good to excellent proficiency in chemistry and/or biochemistry
  • Expertise in chemical analytics such as gas and liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry
  • Demonstrated publication record
  • Proficient in German and English, spoken and written

Job Description:

  • Cultivation of microorganisms (aerobic/anaerobic)
  • Metabolic engineering of syngas-fermenting microorganisms
  • Fermentation in a 3.7L scale gas fermentation facility
  • Characterization of product strains at transcript, protein, and product levels
  • Analysis using GC-MS (e.g., alcohols, acids) and LC-MS/MS (e.g., targeted proteomics, intermediates)
  • Contribution to publications, patents, and presentations
  • Collaboration within a multidisciplinary team
  • Application of modern methods of strain improvement (e.g., CRISPR/Cas9)
