Postdoc Position in Materials Chemistry: The School of Chemistry at the University of Birmingham invites applications for a full-time 2-year postdoctoral position in Computational Materials Chemistry. Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD degree (or close to completion) in chemistry, physics, materials science, or related discipline
  • Experience in theoretical/computational chemistry/materials science and numerical simulations
  • Expertise in high-throughput and multiscale simulations, automated computational workflows, data science, and programming (desirable)

Job Description: The postdoc will contribute to the interdisciplinary research project on functional organic materials, including graphene derivatives, covalent-organic frameworks, and hyperbranched polymers. Responsibilities include high-level simulations, implementation of methods into computational workflows, and collaboration with the PATTERNCHEM team. The role offers training in functional organic materials, transferable skills, and mentorship for career development.

Research Environment: The Computational Carbon Chemistry group, initially in Heidelberg, Germany, will relocate to the University of Birmingham in April 2024. The team is dynamic, comprising undergraduate and PhD students, and postdocs with diverse backgrounds. Salary and Contract:

  • Starting salary (Grade 7): £34,980 to £44,263 per annum, potential progression to £46,974
  • Fixed-term 2-year contract, up to May 2027, depending on the start date
