Job/Position Description-
Agent Oriented Software (AOS) (Lead Partner) in partnership with the University of New England (UNE) have jointly received funding for a Cooperative Research Centre Project (CRC-P) from the Commonwealth Grant CRCPIX000099 titled, ‘Novel autonomous robotic weed control to maximise agricultural productivity’. The CRC-P aims to develop an autonomous mobile robot, ‘Kelpie’ to identify individual weeds and selectively spray or remove them. Five Kelpie systems will be trialled on Monaro farms and Treasury Wine Estates vineyards, autonomously navigating pasture or vineyard to economically control weeds where it is currently not possible.
Kelpie will record the position and size of the weeds, to produce a Weeds Map for planning and audit purposes, and a Feed Quality Map with the current farm stock carrying capacity.
Eight CRC-P project partners include: Lucas Field Autonomous Agriculture Pty Ltd, University of New England, Treasury Wine Estates Vintners Limited, Queensland University of Technology, Monaro Farming Systems CMC INC, David Miron, NSW Department of Primary Industries and Agent Oriented Software Pty Ltd.
As a key part of the CRC-P, AOS and UNE are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (PRF).
