Postdoctoral Fellow in 3D X-ray Ptychography, Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), Switzerland

Postdoc Position - 2019 in Switzerland, EPFL School of Engineering

Postdoctoral Fellow in 3D X-ray: The Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences in Switzerland. We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our Computational X-Ray Imaging group and contribute to the advancement of 3D X-ray ptychography. This project focuses on the development of nanoscale 3D imaging techniques, particularly for biological specimens. As a member of our collaborative team, you will work on method and algorithm development, numerical simulations, and synchrotron experiments. The position is based at the Computational X-ray Imaging group (CXI) and involves close collaboration with colleagues at the cSAXS beamline of the Swiss Light Source.

Designation: Postdoctoral Fellow

Research Area: 3D X-ray Ptychography

Location: Paul Scherrer Institute, Villigen PSI, Switzerland

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD degree in physics, signal/image processing, engineering, or a similar natural science discipline.
  • Strong knowledge in physics, signal/image processing, or related fields, with a keen interest in 3D X-ray ptychography.
  • Ability to conduct independent research while thriving in a collaborative environment.
  • Proficiency in coding, preferably in Matlab and Python.
  • Comfortable working with complex datasets and making informed decisions.
  • Experience in the analysis of large datasets, ptychography, and/or tomography is advantageous.

Job Description: As a Postdoctoral Fellow in 3D X-ray Ptychography, your responsibilities will include:

  • Advancing and developing 3D X-ray ptychography techniques for nanoscale imaging of representative volumes, with a focus on biological specimens.
  • Collaborating with experts in image processing, instrumentation, X-ray imaging, and neuroscience.
  • Developing new measurement strategies and reconstruction approaches through numerical simulations and synchrotron experiments.
  • Analyzing and interpreting data to overcome limitations in imaging volume and resolution.
  • Presenting research results in peer-reviewed scientific journals and international conferences.
  • Mentoring and supporting PhD and Master students of the group.
  • Contributing to the user program of cSAXS, either through experimental support or developing specialized code for data analysis.
