Eligibility/Qualification:
- PhD in a relevant area and a BSc/MSc in a related life science subject (e.g., cell biology/immunology).
- Background in patient-derived cancer co-culture models would be beneficial.
- Robust skills in molecular biology techniques.
- Experience in cancer cell culture, primary tissue explants, 3D cell culture/organoid techniques.
- Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Applications will be considered from candidates working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.
Job Description:
- Delivering a CRIS Cancer Foundation funded award to map and model the tumour microenvironment of a paediatric soft tissue sarcoma called rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS).
- Validating novel therapeutic strategies for RMS cancers.
- Collaborating with Professor Janet Shipley at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) and Dr. Jonathan West (UoS).
- Utilizing patient-derived material from RMS patients to generate near-patient co-culture models.
- Testing tumour microenvironment targeting and immune augmenting strategies.
- Demonstrating independence in project design and delivery, manuscript preparation, and involvement in grant bids.
- Encouraged to develop applications for further funding to support career progression.
