Research/Job Area-

The fellowship covers research areas across four departments:

• Computer Science & Engineering: Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Signal & Image Processing, NLP, Communication Systems, Security & Cryptography, Quantum Computing, Computer Vision, Data Science, Bioinformatics, Health Informatics, Distributed Computing, Blockchain and Multimedia Technologies.
• Electrical Engineering: Cyber-Physical Systems, Biomedical Systems, Computer Vision, Signal Processing, Semiconductor Devices, Wide Bandgap Devices, EV Charging, VLSI, Embedded Systems, Memory Design, IoT and Power Management ICs.
• Electronics & Communication Engineering: Signal Processing, Analog/Digital Circuits, VLSI & MEMS, Semiconductor Devices, Micro/Nanoelectronics, Biosensors, Solar Cells, Wireless/Optical/Satellite/5G/6G/UAV/RF communication, Antennas & Metamaterials, Energy Harvesting, ML/DL, Perovskite Materials and RF Resonators.
• Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering: Energy Storage & Management, Batteries, Supercapacitors, Solar PV, EVs, Healthcare Automation, Drug Delivery, Nanosensors, Flexible Electronics, 5G and beyond, AI/ML/DL, Renewable Energy, Biomedical Engineering, VLSI and Emerging Memory Technologies.

Eligibility/Qualification–

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Must be an Indian citizen.
• Must hold a PhD degree from a recognized university.
• Must have obtained First Class in all preceding levels with a good academic record.
• PhD must have been completed within the previous 5 years as of the application deadline.
• Applicant must be 40 years or below on the date of application.
• Applicant must have a proven academic record, including peer-reviewed publications and recognitions.
• Candidates who completed their PhD at NIT Silchar are not eligible for the fellowship at the same institution.
• Candidates in regular employment are not eligible. Those holding temporary academic/research positions may apply but must relinquish their current position if selected.
• A suitable Mentor/Guide must be identified, holding a regular academic/research position in a recognized Indian institution and a PhD in Science or Engineering.
• A research proposal with clear objectives, outcomes and deliverables is required.
• Preference will be given to candidates with active industry linkages and proposals addressing industry-specific problems.

Job/Position Description- 

National Institute of Technology Silchar invites applications for Postdoctoral Fellowship (PDF) positions under the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme for Electronics and IT: Phase II, sponsored by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, for the academic year 2026–27. The fellowship is a full-time, temporary, non-transferable position for up to one year, with a fellowship of ₹1,08,393 per month and a contingency grant of ₹1,00,000 per year.

Designation: Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF)

The selected Postdoctoral Fellow will undertake full-time research under the Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme in one of the eligible research areas at NIT Silchar.

The candidate will be expected to:

• Conduct research in the proposed specialization under an approved Mentor/Guide.
• Develop and execute a research proposal with clearly defined objectives, outcomes and deliverables.
• Produce research outputs such as publications, patents and other scholarly contributions.
• Work on research aligned with Electronics, IT and related technological domains.
• Where applicable, address industry-specific research problems through active industry linkages.
• Complete the fellowship within the permitted one-year duration; extension beyond one year is not admissible under the scheme.

Fellowship Benefits

The contingency grant is disbursed on a pro-rata basis.
