Postdoctoral Position in Conifer Genomics: The Department of Ecology and Environmental Science at Umeå University is seeking applications for a postdoctoral position in genomics of climate adaptation and pathogen resistance of conifer trees. This full-time position is for a duration of two years, commencing in March 2024 or as per agreement. The deadline for applications is December 31, 2023.

Location: Umeå, Sweden

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in genetics/genomics, computational biology, or a related field at the time of recruitment.
  • Proficiency in plant genome assembly, mapping, and annotation.
  • Experience in bioinformatics using high-performance computing clusters.
  • Additional knowledge in population or quantitative genetics of forest trees, pan-genome analysis, and programming skills (e.g., R, Python) is desirable.
  • Motivated, with excellent communication skills in English, and capable of collaborative teamwork.

Job Description: The successful candidate will be a key part of a collaborative project exploring fungal pathogen infection in Scots pine populations. The focus will be on characterizing structural genomic variation in Scots pine, studying its role in fungal resistance, and conducting GWAS. Bioinformatics tasks include generating long-read sequence data, analyzing breeding populations, and publishing research findings. The postdoc will have opportunities to develop personal research interests, network, and contribute to other ongoing projects in the research team.
