Eligibility & Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree (or equivalent) in mechanics, physics, applied mathematics, or a related field (must be submitted by the closing date, with an approved thesis and public defense required for appointment).
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • An excellent track record in fundamental research in fluid mechanics, active materials, soft robotics, or elastic materials.
  • A strong experimental background in developing and performing experiments in soft materials, robotics, complex materials, fluids, interfaces, or active surfaces.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in active materials, robotics, sensors, elastohydrodynamics, interfacial flows, or complex materials.
  • Background in theoretical research and/or scientific computing.

Job Description

The successful candidate will join an international and interdisciplinary research group. The primary objectives of this role are to:

  • Uncover fundamental physical principles governing the coupling between active surfaces and their surrounding fluid environment.
  • Apply this knowledge to inspire new technological applications, with an emphasis on bio-inspired and sustainable designs.
  • Develop independence in research while contributing to the project and research group activities.
  • Submit a professional development plan within one month of commencement.
