Summary: The University of Gothenburg is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Kaisa Thorell group at the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology. The focus will be on the characterization of a newly discovered ancient ecospecies of Helicobacter pylori, particularly its outer membrane proteins and their role in host-microbe interactions.

Eligibility/Qualifications:

  • Must have a doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign qualification by the appointment decision date.
  • Preference for candidates who obtained their degree no more than three years prior to the application closing date (exceptional circumstances may apply).

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience in culturing Helicobacter pylori with an emphasis on outer membrane proteins and their gene regulation.
  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques for assessing gene expression.
  • Background in co-culturing Helicobacter pylori with other bacteria or host cells.
  • Experience in expressing and characterizing bacterial outer membrane proteins.
  • Strong English communication skills (oral and written).

  • Good publication record and international collaboration experience.

Job Description:

The primary focus of this position will be the characterization of outer membrane proteins involved in microbial adhesion and their interaction with host cell ligands in Helicobacter pylori, a significant bacterium linked to gastric cancer. You will work within a vibrant research group, contributing to various projects, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration.
