Eligibility / Qualification
Applicants should possess:
- A PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Systems, Control Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of electrical power systems and supply-demand balancing.
- Experience in power system modeling and simulation techniques.
- Programming proficiency in at least one of the following:
- MATLAB
- Python
- Julia
- C/C++
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of machine learning and/or operational research methodologies.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary research teams.
- Strong motivation for academic research and industrial collaboration.
Job Description
The selected Postdoctoral Researcher will contribute to the Harmony Project, focusing on the modeling, analysis, simulation, optimization, and control of integrated AC–MTDC power systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop advanced optimization and control methodologies for future transmission networks.
- Model and simulate hybrid AC/DC power systems.
- Design optimal control strategies for AC–MTDC systems with high renewable energy penetration.
- Conduct research on dynamic and security-constrained optimal power flow (OPF).
- Investigate multi-timescale operation and control of hybrid AC/DC grids.
- Develop real-time and predictive control techniques for next-generation power systems.
- Collaborate with industrial partners including TenneT and Swissgrid.
- Publish research findings and contribute to open-source software and open-science initiatives.
Research Environment
The researcher will:
- Be supervised by Aleksandra Lekić and Robert Dimitrovski.
- Join the Intelligent Electrical Power Grids (IEPG) section.
- Work with advanced facilities including:
- RTDS real-time simulation platforms
- HVDC and DC grid laboratories
- Wide-area monitoring and protection systems
- High-voltage testing laboratories
Scholarship / Benefits
- Monthly salary ranging from €3,546 – €5,538.
- Full-time appointment (35–40 hours per week).
