Eligibility/Qualification
To be eligible for this PhD position, candidates must have:
- A completed master’s degree in biomedical-related sciences (e.g., Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Neuroscience, Biology, Pharmacy, Rehabilitation Sciences, or other related disciplines).
- A commitment to advancing the understanding and treatment of vestibular disorders through innovative research in various fields.
- Excellent English presentation and writing skills.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary and international environment.
- Fulfillment of EU Mobility Criteria.
Description
The doctoral candidate will conduct research utilizing international patient cohorts to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the BalanceBelt, a wearable device that provides haptic feedback aimed at helping individuals with severe vestibular loss. This project will involve:
- Designing and monitoring research protocols and conducting patient-focused research in collaboration with medical specialists.
- Analyzing the patient care pathway for bilateral vestibular loss (BVL) and reimbursement systems across Europe.
- Collaborating with engineers to optimize coding for the BalanceBelt.
The primary site for the PhD research will be at the Maastricht University Medical Centre, supported by a dual supervision setup with other research institutions.
