Eligibility/Qualification–

Basic Academic Requirements

Ph.D. in relevant discipline is mandatory for all posts.
First class in all preceding degrees (Bachelor’s onward).
- If first class not mentioned, candidate must have:
  - At least 6.5 CGPA on a 10‑point scale or
  - 60% marks in aggregate.
Degrees must be from UGC/AICTE/AIU/GOI recognized Institutes/Universities.
Where CGPA is under a different scale, an official certificate showing equivalence to first class / conversion to 10‑point scale must be attached from competent authority (not supervisor/HoD).

Preceding Degrees

Engineering Departments (CSE, EE, ECE, ME, CE, AE):
- B.E./B.Tech or equivalent and
- M.E./M.Tech or equivalent in relevant discipline.
- Candidates with Ph.D. directly after B.E./B.Tech from reputed institutions are also eligible, provided they have first class at Bachelor’s level and fulfill other criteria.
Computer Applications (CA):
- B.Sc./BCA or equivalent undergraduate degree and/or
- M.Sc./MCA or equivalent postgraduate degree in relevant discipline.
Candidates with foreign degrees:
- Ph.D. and preceding degrees from institutions ranked within top 500 in QS/THE World Rankings in the last two consecutive years are acceptable.

Experience Requirements

Assistant Professor Grade II (Level 10):
- Ph.D.; no minimum post-Ph.D. experience required.
Assistant Professor Grade I (Level 12):
- Ph.D. and
- Three years after Ph.D.
- OR six years total teaching and research experience in reputed academic Institute / R&D Labs / relevant industry;
- Minimum 20 cumulative essential credit points as per Schedule E.

Additional Conditions

Only experience on regular basis of more than six months is counted.
Part-time / daily wage / adhoc / visiting / guest faculty / fixed remuneration / contract basis not counted for required experience.
Experience must be in applicable pay scales as per UGC/AICTE/GoI/PSUs.
Post-doctoral experience can be counted up to Level 12 as per MoE oversight committee guidelines.
Industry experience counted only from:
- Central/State PSUs, or
- Private companies with turnover of at least Rs. 500 crore per annum for last three years, and in relevant field.

Age & In-breeding

Fresh appointment beyond 60 years is discouraged, except in cases of exceptionally strong research profile and ongoing or approved externally funded research projects.
To avoid in-breeding, candidates whose most recent degree (Ph.D.) is from NIT Delhi are normally not considered unless there is at least 3‑year gap between award of Ph.D. and last date of application. Exceptional cases need BoG approval and will not set precedent.

Job/Position Description-

National Institute of Technology Delhi (NIT Delhi), an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, invites online applications from Indian Nationals for faculty positions at the level of:

Assistant Professor, Grade I – Pay Level 12 (as per 7th CPC)
Assistant Professor, Grade II (on Contract Basis) – Pay Level 10 (as per 7th CPC)

The positions are available in multiple departments as detailed below. The recruitment is governed by the four-tier flexible faculty recruitment rules, relevant NIT Statutes (2017 and 2023 amendments), CEI (Reservation in Teachers’ Cadre) Act, 2019, and Ministry of Education (MoE) guidelines.

Assistant Professor, Grade I
- Pay Level: 12 (7th CPC)
- Essential Qualification: Ph.D. in relevant/referred discipline
- Experience:
  - Three years after Ph.D.
  - OR six years total teaching and research experience in a reputed academic institute / R&D labs / relevant industry
- Cumulative Essential Credit Points: 20
Assistant Professor, Grade II (on Contract Basis)
- Pay Level: 10 (7th CPC)
- Essential Qualification: Ph.D. in relevant/referred discipline
- Essential Requirements: Nil
- Cumulative Essential Credit Points: Nil

Selected candidates are expected to:

Teaching & Instruction
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the relevant department.
- Develop new courses and update existing curricula.
- Guide undergraduate and postgraduate projects/dissertations.
Research & Development
- Conduct high-quality research in identified or emerging areas of the discipline.
- Attract external research funding through sponsored R&D and consultancy projects.
- Publish in reputed SCI/SCIE/SSCI/Scopus-indexed journals and conferences, and pursue patents/technology transfer.
Academic & Administrative Contributions
- Supervise Ph.D. scholars (as per rules for Grade I and progression from Grade II).
- Contribute to departmental and institute-level committees, lab development, accreditation, and curriculum review.
- Participate in outreach programs, continuing education, FDPs, workshops, and national/international collaborations.
Institutional Development
- Assist in student mentoring, training & placement activities, and overall academic environment enhancement.
- Support institute’s mission of high-quality teaching, research, and innovation.
