Eligibility/Qualification–
1. Senior Consultant (01 Post)
Essential Qualification
- Ph.D. in Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry
- Minimum 20 years of experience in soil survey, soil genesis & classification, and soil characterization in a State/Central Government institution
Desirable
- Experience in land evaluation and land use planning
2. Junior Consultant (01 Post)
Essential Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum 10 years of experience in morphological characterization of soil profiles under field conditions in a State/Central Government institution
Desirable
- Expertise in soil monolith extraction, display, and preservation
3. Research Associate (RA) – 10 Posts
Essential Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Soil Science / Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry / Geography
- Diploma in Geoinformatics
- At least one publication in an SCI/Scopus indexed journal
Age Limit
- Upper age limit: 40 years
- Relaxation: 5 years (Female/SC/ST/PwD), 3 years (OBC)
Desirable
- Working knowledge of Remote Sensing & GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, ERDAS Imagine, ENVI)
- Experience in handling large remote sensing datasets
- Intensive fieldwork experience
- Knowledge of Pedology / Soil Science
4. Senior Research Fellow (SRF) – 06 Posts
Essential Qualification
- M.Sc. (Ag.) in Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry / Soil Science / Soil Science & Soil and Water Conservation
- OR M.A. in Geography (Specialization in Cartography & Remote Sensing)
- Minimum 60% marks or equivalent grade
Age Limit
- Upper age limit: 32 years
- Relaxation as per GoI norms
Desirable
- GIS & Remote Sensing expertise
- Fieldwork experience
- Knowledge of soil science and pedology
5. Young Professional – II (06 Posts)
Essential Qualification

Job/Position Description-
The Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) invites applications for multiple temporary project-based positions under the National Soil Mapping Programme (NSMP-1:10K), sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, with Soil and Land Use Survey of India as the nodal agency.
The appointments are purely temporary and co-terminus with the project, which has a sanctioned duration of two years. Positions are available at different academic and professional levels for qualified candidates in Soil Science, Agricultural Chemistry, Geography, Remote Sensing, and GIS.

Selected candidates will be involved in:
- Soil survey, soil mapping, and characterization
- Field sampling and intensive fieldwork
- Handling and interpretation of remote sensing and GIS data
- Preparation of soil maps under NSMP (1:10K scale)
- Data analysis, report writing, and documentation
- Supporting national-level soil resource assessment initiatives
